About Us

Lifeline Emergency Housing aims to invent a new way to address the housing needs of our most vulnerable neighbors, by designing and building efficient tiny housing units

With more than 35 years of experience in the San Francisco Bay Area rental housing industry, we understand the region's growing need for affordable homes. Rising housing costs have placed stable housing beyond the reach of many residents. As a result, more and more of our neighbors are living in vehicles, tents, and other unsafe conditions.

Traditional shelters provide essential emergency support, but communities also need more cost-effective options for stable, independent housing. Lifeline offers a different solution that encourages independent living through compact tiny homes designed to help meet the need.

So Far..

Currently, we have developed several tiny house prototypes.

Our units are mobile and can be easily adapted for a variety of installation options. Our current units are efficiently designed to meet the needs of independent living, but without the excess energy costs of supporting extra square footage.

<< Our First Unit

Our first unit has 136 sq. ft. of living space. The unit features a full kitchen including a two-burner stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, and even a kitchen sink. There is a full bath with a toilet, basin, and full-size shower. In the main living area, there is a couch that converts into a bed, with storage underneath. There is also a closet with storage, a TV, and a low-energy heater, as well as a 50 sq. ft. outside deck for socializing with neighbors.

<< Our Second Unit

The second unit is smaller and designed as an entry-level unit that can be located on any vacant city lot. For the unit to be operational, it only needs an electric hookup, and then it can start providing much-needed housing for someone in need. This unit would be used in conjunction with a mobile shower and kitchen unit for communal use.

First Pres. Tiny House Village

We had the privilege to work with First Presbyterian Church of Hayward to develop a Tiny House Village, consisting of six tiny house units in the back parking lot of their church. The Tiny Houses were built offsite with donated labor and materials.

Each of the units has a full bathroom and kitchen, a combination living/bedroom space, and a private patio area. The units are 153 sq. ft. The units are part of a transitional housing program administered by the church. Through the program, the units are rented out to pre-screened clients at a low starting rate that increases every four months. All funds received over the initial monthly rate go into a savings account for the client. Additionally, through a church partnership, clients also work on developing job and life skills and receive assistance in their search for permanent housing.
